Annual Celebration
  • Aggaw na Ilagan and the Mammangi Festival are vibrant annual celebrations in Ilagan City, each offering a rich immersion into the cultural heritage and traditions of the Ilagueños.

Aggaw na Ilagan commemorates the city’s founding anniversary on May 4. This day is marked by parades, cultural performances, and community gatherings, reflecting the city’s history and unity. In recognition of its significance, May 4 is declared a special non-working day in Ilagan City.

Mammangi Festival is a colorful tribute to Ilagueño farmers and the city’s agricultural prominence as the “Corn Capital of the Philippines.” Traditionally celebrated in early May, the festival features music, dance, and cultural presentations that honor the corn harvest and the farmers’ contributions. For instance, in 2024, the festival was held from May 4 to 10. However, schedules can vary; in 2023, due to weather disturbances, the festival was rescheduled to August 1 to 13.

Both events showcase the city’s dedication to preserving and celebrating its rich cultural heritage and agricultural roots.

  • Cityhood Anniversary – The City of Ilagan proudly celebrates its cityhood anniversary every August 11th, commemorating its journey of remarkable transformation, rising from a simple municipality to its standing as the 49th richest city in the country. The 2024 festivities marked a significant milestone – the 12th anniversary-with a vibrant array of events, including a grand concert featuring the popular Filipino band, Kamikazee.
  • The Bambanti Festival is a vibrant and culturally rich annual celebration held in the City of Ilagan, the capital of Isabela Province, Philippines. Known as the “Festival of Scarecrows,” it honors the ingenuity and hard work of the local farmers who rely on scarecrows (bambanti in the local Ilocano dialect) to protect their crops. The festival is a thanksgiving event that highlights the province’s abundant agricultural harvests, cultural heritage, and unity among its people.

Key highlights of the Bambanti Festival include:

  1. Colorful Scarecrow Displays: Eye-catching and creatively designed scarecrows made from indigenous materials are displayed throughout the festival, showcasing the artistry and resourcefulness of each participating municipality.

  2. Street Dance Competitions: Energetic performers in elaborate costumes parade through the streets, performing traditional and modern dances that reflect the culture, history, and pride of Isabela.

  3. Agri-Tourism Booths: Municipalities set up exhibits featuring their local products, handicrafts, and delicacies, offering visitors a taste of Isabela’s rich agricultural bounty.

  4. Cultural Performances: The festival includes cultural presentations, music, and theater performances that highlight the traditions and values of the Isabeleños.

  5. Community Spirit: The event fosters camaraderie and a strong sense of community, as residents and visitors come together to celebrate Isabela’s achievements and vibrant way of life.

The Bambanti Festival, typically held in January, positions the City of Ilagan as the epicenter of the festivities, drawing visitors from across the country and beyond. It not only promotes Isabela as a premier agri-tourism destination but also instills pride in its residents by honoring their agricultural roots and cultural identity.
